Local regatta postponed

The Docklands Regatta, which was scheduled to take place this month, has been postponed.

The regatta was first held last year as a celebration of Docklands most valuable resource – the water.

Last year’s event was held on a Sunday, but this year event organisers decided to hold the regatta on a Friday afternoon in hope of enticing local corporate groups to get involved.

Local charter boats offered a range of hospitality packages to corporate groups, with a percentage of the proceeds supporting the Mission to Seafarers.

The regatta, which was to be held on September 13, was to include the traditional blessing of the fleet, a cruise down the river and a visit to Williamstown to see the tall ships.

Melbourne Passenger Boat Association president James Gantidis said the group had been late promoting the event due to the change in format and had decided it was best to postpone the event until next year.

“From the interest we have received from the corporate sector we believe that we will be able to build on our experience so far and secure the event for 2014 and beyond,” Mr Gantidis said.
