“Say Yes to You”: Supporting Women’s Health Week 2025
Dr Mike Edgley

Docklands Health is proud to support Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week 2025, Australia’s largest national health campaign dedicated to the wellbeing of women, girls, and gender-diverse people.

This year’s theme, “Say Yes to You,” is a powerful reminder to prioritise your health, because when women thrive, so do their families, workplaces, and communities.

On September 1, Jean Hailes launched a new tool to help women stay on top of their health checks, providing personalised recommendations based on a few simple questions.

As allied health practitioners, we see how often women put others first while setting aside their own needs. But women’s health cannot wait. Regular check-ups, speaking up when something doesn’t feel right, and accessing the right care are vital steps toward a healthier, stronger future.

Monday – every check matters

Understanding what’s normal for your body starts with regular health checks. Many serious health conditions, from cervical changes to heart disease, can be managed or even prevented with early detection.

At Docklands Health, we believe that prioritising regular check-ups is one of the most powerful ways women can “say yes” to themselves. Speak to one of our practitioners to get a second opinion on any musculoskeletal pain you may be feeling. Our therapies can address a wide range of symptoms.

Tuesday – take the lead

At Docklands Health, keeping our patients informed is one of our highest priorities. With a wide range of allied health services under one roof, we collaborate closely to provide a holistic approach to care. We encourage every patient to be an active participant in their treatment – whether that’s by asking questions, exploring different options, or taking the time to understand how their body works.

This year’s Women’s Health Week encourages women to arm themselves with knowledge and tools to get more out of their health appointments. That might mean preparing questions in advance, bringing a support person, or seeking a second opinion if you feel unheard. As health practitioners, we want our patients to feel empowered and confident when discussing their health.

Wednesday – heart smart

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women in Australia, yet it is often overlooked as a “male problem.” In reality, women experience heart disease differently, and symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, or shortness of breath can be mistaken for stress or anxiety.

During Women’s Health Week, Jean Hailes is shining a light on heart health for women – encouraging regular checks of blood pressure, cholesterol, and other key indicators. At Docklands Health, we also focus on prevention through lifestyle changes. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and stress management are all important tools in protecting your heart health, and early action makes all the difference.

Thursday – pain to power

Pain should never be dismissed as “just part of being a woman.” Too many women are told to endure pain – whether it’s related to menstruation, endometriosis, musculoskeletal injuries, or chronic conditions. This dismissal contributes to the gender pain gap, where women’s pain is more likely to be underestimated or undertreated.

At Docklands Health, we have been actively involved in raising awareness and sharing studies relating to women’s pain and are passionate about challenging this gap. Through physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic care, and exercise rehabilitation, we work closely with women to reduce pain, restore function, and help them return to the activities they love, pain-free.

Friday – be kind to your mind

Finally, no discussion of health is complete without addressing mental wellbeing. Women are often under immense pressure; juggling responsibilities at home and work while navigating hormonal changes, complex mental wellbeing or nutritional needs.

At Docklands Health, our practitioners are experienced, warm, and highly professional, offering confidential and non-judgmental support. Every consultation is collaborative and client-centred, designed to support women in building resilience, enhancing performance, and making positive change.

Our commitment

Docklands Health has long been committed to advocating for women’s health. From hosting events that raise awareness of women’s health issues, to sharing research on pain and supporting studies into the gender pain gap, our team is passionate about being part of the solution.

We believe every woman deserves access to compassionate, evidence-based care that helps her feel strong and empowered. Whether it’s through manual therapies, exercise rehabilitation or diet and mental health support, our mission is always the same: to help you move better and live pain free.

This Women’s Health Week, Docklands Health practitioners are encouraging all women to:

  • Book that overdue check-up
  • Speak up if something doesn’t feel right
  • Prioritise rest, movement, and mental wellbeing
  • And most importantly, say yes to you.
