Piano stairs are a hit
3rd June, 2010
Thousand of commuters last month delighted in the chance to use the Bourke St stairwell at Southern Cross Station, as it transformed into a fully-functioning piano as part of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
Metlink and Southern Cross Station partnered with the Melbourne International Jazz Festival to convert the stairs.
The concept was based on a commercial, which was filmed in Stockholm last October – one of a series of social experimental commercials commissioned by Volkswagen.
The Stockholm experiment resulted in 66 per cent more people opting to use the stairs over the escalator.
