New phase in Collins St

Walker Corporation has begun phase two of the development of a new public space at Collins Square.
Phase one, which began in October and continued through December, involved the construction of planter boxes, the reconfiguration of stairs, construction of the Chiara restaurant plaza and new stone paving works.
Phase two, which began in January and will continue into March, involves soft landscaping, installation of timber screening, seating, a feature lighting system and a glazed roofing installations.
Dion Horstman’s Olympic-pool-sized canopy (pictured above) will also be installed during phase two and will stretch from the Lantern building at 707 Collins St to the front of Tower 1 at 727 Collins St.
