Marriott hotel gets tick of approval

Planning Minister Richard Wynne has approved Capital Alliance’s 17-storey twin-building Marriot Hotel on Waterfront Way.

The $200 million mixed-used project will comprise 200 hotel rooms at the five-star international hotel and 110 apartments next to Harbour Town.

A public infinity pool overlooking the CBD will be built on the rooftop. The residential apartments will share the hotel services.

Capital Alliance’s managing director Mohan Du said the development would provide a luxurious experience for visitors and residents.

“This will deliver the first contemporary Marriott to Melbourne and its rooftop infinity pool will give the city an experience it has never seen before – akin to the renowned pool bars and lounges of New York City,” he said.

“Marriott is the world’s largest hospitality company and the opportunity it sees in Melbourne and Docklands is a huge compliment to our city. We are very excited to get started and deliver on our original vision.”

“This project will be a true destination in Melbourne and something special that will add to the city’s tourism potential,” Mr Du said.

Construction of the Marriott Hotel will start in mid-2018.
