Collins Square will be one of six venues to host a Melbourne Fashion Week (MFW) capsule exhibition this September.

The pop-up exhibition is supported by Walker Corporation and Melbourne Fashion Week and will showcase Australian designer Jason Grech’s striking collection of couture pieces. Fabric will be hung and draped from a glass canopy in a dramatic fashion to enhance the atmosphere in the precinct.

Walker Corporation’s general manager of commercial assets Emily Carroll said that the partnership delivered a further layer to Walker’s desire for Collins Square to supply an engaging and innovative space for its employees and for the Docklands community.

“This partnership with MFW truly reflects the passion Walker has for art and design and to create an inspiring place for the 28,000 people working in and visiting Collins Square each day,” she said.

“We are excited to host a capsule collection of a renowned Australia designer in the form of a large-scale installation. It is a spectacular exhibition that will attract fashion and art lovers from across the city.”

Collins Square will additionally be hosting the Wear For Success charity clothing drive in partnership with the City of Melbourne. This will offer the community the opportunity to cleanse their wardrobe and assist disadvantaged Victorians get into the work force, by donating pre-loved work wear. Items such as unopened and unused makeup and deodorant and Myki cards are also welcomed. The clothing drive will be set up outside Italian Man in Collins Square in the retail plaza.

Docklands residents are encouraged to bring their favourite pieces from past seasons that would also be appropriate for occasions such as job interviews, work placements, and other significant life-changing events.

These pieces could be a staple clothing item that work with numerous outfits, or a few pieces that work well together. Accessories and high-quality handbags are also encouraged.

A City of Melbourne spokesperson said that their partnership with Collins Square had provided the council with the opportunity to host a range of engaging and entertaining activities that interested people from around Melbourne.

“Our partnership with Collins Square continues to grow from strength to strength, having already hosted a number of key events that have attracted people to the Docklands precinct,” a council spokesperson said.

Last year for MFW, the retail plaza was adorned with a large balloon display hung from the ceiling over the jewellery and accessories capsule exhibition.

This year, the fashion capsule exhibition at Collins Square will deliver an experience that will captivate and impress viewers, and continue to solidify the continuing partnership between Collins Square and MFW. The Fashion Capsule Exhibition runs until September 6. The Wear for Success charity clothing drive will run until September 5.
