The Docklands Waterfront Farmers’ Market has continued its strong start, with almost 5000 people flocking to Harbour Esplanade for its second instalment on June 21.

The market, led by the Docklands Chamber of Commerce, attracted more than 4950 visitors, building on the momentum of its launch and further strengthening the precinct’s push to bring more regular activity to the waterfront.

The June market again brought together farmers, producers, local traders, community groups and visitors for a day of food, music, harbour views and family-friendly activity.

The chamber said the success of the event had been made possible through the support of partners including Development Victoria, the City of Melbourne, the Victorian Farmers’ Market Association and a range of local businesses and organisations.

Mirvac partnered with Yarra River Cruises to provide a complimentary passenger ferry from Yarra’s Edge, while Australian Boat Parties operated the popular Boat Bar.

The Alma Doepel Heritage Boat Community Group used the day to raise funds and awareness for its restoration project, while ANZ engaged visitors with giveaways, and Boost Juice at The District Docklands contributed smoothie vouchers.

Community3008 volunteers also hosted a Relax Station with seating and tables, while Ship4Good held its first community day, inviting locals on board MV Steve Irwin for music, food and ocean conservation education.

Port Phillip Ferries and Docklands News also continues to promote the event.

The strong turnout is a promising sign for the market’s future, with organisers describing it as a long-term community asset for Docklands and encouraging local businesses to get involved.

The market will skip July due to Run Melbourne, which will bring thousands of participants through Docklands on Sunday, July 19.

The next Docklands Waterfront Farmers’ Market will be held on Sunday, August 16 from 10am to 3pm, with future markets scheduled for September 20, November 15 and December 20.
