Thanks a lot Marg, says PM

Docklands Rotary member Margaret Hamilton has received a personal letter from the Prime Minister of Fiji thanking her for her work in providing flood relief earlier this year.

Mrs Hamilton said she was delighted to have received personal recognition from Prime Minister “Frank” Bainimara.

“It was such a pleasant surprise to get a personal letter from the Prime Minister,” Mrs Hamilton said.

“My husband Bill and I have been sending much-needed goods to Fiji for some time now but we never expected a letter of thanks from the Prime Minister.”

Docklands Rotary has an international project around sending requested materials to Fiji.  Some years ago, Mrs Hamilton met Fiji’s Minister for Women’s Welfare and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni who has mentioned her work to the Prime Minister.

The club now works closely with the Fijian Government and is currently collecting second-hand baking equipment.  The project aims to equip and teach indigenous Fijians how to bake bread from local ingredients.

Mrs Hamilton said the project had the dual benefit of feeding isolated communities and also establishing small businesses.

Mr Bainimara’s letter was in response to a special request Fiji made to the Docklands Rotary Club earlier this year following severe flooding in the west of the country.
