Classic cars line the harbour

Docklands was a car lover’s paradise last month when the annual Tour Classica departed from NewQuay.

The tour kicked off the Motorclassica exhibition, an annual event that sees Australia’s most rare, historic, vintage, veteran, classic and collectible cars and motorcycles on display.

With the exhibition held at the Royal Exhibition Building from October 23 to 25, the tour on October 22 saw some 60 classic cars travel from NewQuay through the city to the exhibition building.

This year was the first time Tour Classica has left from NewQuay and crowds gathered to see the classic vehicles lined up along NewQuay Promenade.

“Docklands is one of Melbourne’s key city precincts and its harbour-side setting makes it the ideal place to kick off Tour Classica and this year’s Motorclassica event,” event director Paul Mathers said.

“It’s fantastic to be able to showcase these fabulous vehicles out on the road. It’s quite a spectacle as the convoy makes its way through the city to the Royal Exhibition Building.”

“I really admire the owners, not only are their vehicles incredibly valuable and rare, but they are also about to enter a three-day exhibition, the most important on the calendar, and yet they’re incredibly enthusiastic about participating in Tour Classica,” Mr Mathers said.
