One Summer’s Day
30th March, 2011
By Sonya Robinson
Noon
Three sunbaked dogs
Resting in the dirt
Cool beneath our house
Comrades looking out
The next attack on life.
Afternoon
Brain dead … locked head
Hanging arms ... stretched out legs
Statue still … heat crawling skin
Slow breeze sighs
Teases me … then is gone
I am left brain dead.
Evening
All I saw
You standing naked
In dull lights of shadow
Lean and strong … heart stopping
In a fast moving
Moment of shadows
Held breath
I waited.
