Seniors Festival comes to Docklands

Docklands is the centre of a number of great Seniors Festival events this month.

Jazz Brew Cafe: Alison Riethmuller with Phil Noy

Pianist and vocalist Alison Riethmuller will perform alongside saxophonist Phil Noy in the Jazz Brew Cafe series on October 13. Spend a Friday afternoon listening to the soothing sound of jazz from 4pm to 5.15pm at Library at The Dock.

Alison is no stranger to the music industry, and has been playing the piano and singing for 20 years across Australia, Europe and Asia. She has lectured in piano studies at the University of South Queensland, and has had various directing experience.

With previous concerts held in Australian venues like Jimbour House, Sydney’s Slide Lounge, and the Brisbane Jazz Club, Alison will now join Phil, from The Bamboos, to perform in Docklands for this free event!

Open Door Singers

Enter the open door of music with this free regular singing group, where you can meet new people over tea, coffee and chords! Open Door Singers is committed to sharing the benefits of singing, which includes a boost in health and happiness.

In just 10 years, the club has grown to a membership base of over 400, as led by founder and internationally acclaimed choral conductor Shaun Islip. Open Door Singers will perform on Sundays (8th, 15th and 22nd) in October from 6pm to 7pm at The Hub. For more information visit

Laughter Club

Laughter is the best medicine, so join in on the fun with this gleeful group! Held at 10am on the first Saturday of each month, the session runs for half an hour and is followed by a 30-minute meditation – a great way to start the day.

Laughter Club will be led by laughter therapist Jim Lord or Guru Mahes Karuppiah Quillen, and includes laughing exercises with happy breathing activities, which are sure to reduce stress and clear the mind!

Bollywood workout

Dance to your heart’s content in this Bollywood-inspired class at 2pm on October 9. In just 60 minutes, instructors from Jollity Bollywood will teach you this Indian dance, through both high and low-intensity sequences. With weight loss, flexibility and overall health in mind, these classes are ideal for all!

Tai Chi

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and find some peace of mind in Docklands through these Tai Chi classes.

Immerse yourself in this 16th century Chinese martial art practice through Qigong breathing and meditation activities, presented by JinLi Wushu-Tai Chi. Great for the body and soul, these classes are a great way to socialise and meet new and like-minded people.
