A heartless thief has been caught on CCTV allegedly stealing a beloved Shih Tzu dog from outside a restaurant in Docklands on November 5.

Police have been told five-year-old Angel was secured to a pole on Bourke St when the man could be seen removing her leash before fleeing with her about 8.30pm.

The man is perceived to be Indian subcontinental with black curly hair and a black beard.

He was last seen walking south along Bourke St waterfront carrying Angel.

He was wearing a bandanna as a headband and a long black sleeve polo top with a white stripe on the collar over a white shirt.

He also had light jeans with large horizontal rips across the knees and sneakers.

Melbourne West police have released CCTV and images of a man who may be able to assist with their enquiries.

“Investigators would also like to hear from anyone who has purchased or seen the Shih Tzu being through social media or online marketplace websites,” a police spokesperson said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at crimestoppersvic.com.au
