Nick Reece’s plan for a “world-class” seafood dining precinct for Docklands

Nick Reece’s plan for a “world-class” seafood dining precinct for Docklands

A new world-class seafood precinct would be pursued for Docklands as a vibrant attraction to draw more visitors to the area if Nick Reece is re-elected Lord Mayor this month.

Showcasing Melbourne’s renowned food culture along with many experienced chefs, the Docklands Seafood Dining Precinct would be a unique destination for visitors and locals to enjoy fresh seafood by the water.

“This precinct will transform Docklands into a must-visit destination for seafood lovers, offering a unique dining experience that celebrates Melbourne’s diverse culinary culture,” Lord Mayor Nick Reece said.

Including open air dining, restaurants, food stalls, and a seafood school, surrounded by a public open space, the Docklands foreshore will be designed to create a welcoming and lively atmosphere, bringing Docklands to life.

In addition to enhancing Melbourne’s reputation as Australia’s food culture capital, the project will aid in boosting local business by attracting more visitors to the area.

“We know that a new area like this for Docklands can provide an incredible opportunity for local businesses and create a dynamic new space for the community to enjoy,” Cr and Deputy Lord Mayor candidate Roshena Campbell said.

If re-elected, Cr Reece will work closely with residents, local landholders, and the wider Docklands community to help determine the final location of the precinct.

He will also work alongside the Melbourne Maritime Heritage Network to identify ways the precinct can help celebrate the rich maritime history of Docklands.

“Docklands has a proud maritime history, and this project will celebrate this story and bring it to life for modern Melburnians,” he said.

Featuring a range of seafood eateries including charcoal-grilled octopus, sushi, oyster bars, and ceviche stalls, the new precinct will display the rich and diverse culinary culture of Melbourne.

Inspiration for the design of the new seafood precinct will be drawn from some of the world’s great seafood markets, including Tokyo’s Tsukiji Market and San Franciso’s Fisherman’s Wharf.

“Docklands is perfectly placed for a major food tourism project like this – a waterfront seafood dining precinct that will attract local and international visitors,” Chris Lucas from Lucas Restaurants said.

“I look forward to working closely with Nick to make this a reality.”
