New café and gelato bar open at The District

Calling out to locals and bringing them together. That is inspiration behind Vuvu Telo, Docklands’ newest cafe at The District’s Market Lane.

Docklanders can expect the usual array of café essentials like great coffee, pastries, baked goods, alongside a range of unique South African inspired delicacies including a dish described “as the most delicious dish you can ever eat.”

Sindy Smith and her family are the team behind Vuvu Telo. She told Docklands News the response from “locals has been promising,” sensing they were looking for “something unique, different and delicious.”

“We come from a family with restaurants in South Africa and Mozambique, and that is where the influence comes from,” Ms Smith said. “We grew up in the industry and when we saw there was an opening at The District, we just thought absolutely.”

We want to bring our African heritage and carnival vibes to the District and create delicious menus and food available to everyone.

“Bunny Chow is a dish unique to South Africa and has become incredibly popular. It is one of the most renowned dishes that has come out of the country, and if you ask anyone there, they’ll say it is the most delicious dish you can ever eat.”

Also on the menu you’ll find charcuterie boards, grazing platters, freshly baked gourmet rolls and toasted sandwiches that include an interesting mix of ingredients like balsamic, blueberry, goats cheese and spinach or the Hawaiian with pineapple, streaky bacon and mozzarella.

Joining Vuvu Telo as new neighbours at The District is C9 Chocolate and Gelato.

C9 Chocolate and Gelato offers premium-quality house-made gelato, desserts, and treats for every chocolate lover. For those craving something sweet, the C9 dessert bar is a must-try.

“It’s never about a dessert for us, it’s our first love and our biggest passion,” owner Marzieh Rezaei said.  “We make gelato like no one else and make sure each one of our client’s taste buds feels satisfied.”
