Local businesses celebrated

The longevity of four Docklands businesses was celebrated last month as part of the Lord Mayor’s Commendations program.

Leigh Doeg of Victoria Star Cruises, Scott Dunkley and Tim Lewis of Victoria Harbour Pharmacy and News, Glen Lucas of Lucas Real Estate and Renzo Mammolito of Renzo’s Bar Café Italiano received bronze commendations, recognising 10 or more years of operation in the City of Melbourne.

The Docklands business owners were amongst 54 independent small business proprietors and one multi-generational family business honoured at a town hall ceremony on October 21.

Chair of marketing, councillor Beverley Pinder-Mortimer said there were currently more than 12,600 small businesses in the City of Melbourne, employing around 75,000 people.

“Our city’s entrepreneurs have adapted and prospered, creating jobs, boosting the economy and playing a vital role in making Melbourne the world’s most liveable city,” Cr Pinder-Mortimer said.

This year’s recipients join an alumni of 380 small business proprietors and 13 family businesses, which have received Lord Mayor’s Commendations since the programs inception in 2005.
