Docklands will come alive with wagging tails and wizard cloaks this October as the annual Walk for PetWellness returns to Point Park at Yarra’s Edge for its third year.

The community event, organised by Yarra’s Edge resident and PetWell co-founder Ayda Hornak, will take place on Sunday, October 5 at 10am.

Hundreds of locals and their four-legged companions are expected to take part in the 5km walk from Docklands to Southbank and back, with the aim of raising $15,000 for Second Chance Animal Rescue (SCAR).

This year’s theme, “Magical Mutts & Mystical Pups”, promises a whimsical twist, with participants encouraged to dress their dogs – and themselves – in costumes ranging from wizard cloaks to sparkly wings.

Along the route, walkers will enjoy photo opportunities, caricature artists, expert Q&As and a festive atmosphere designed to celebrate the bond between pets and people.

For Ms Hornak, the event is as much about compassion as it is about community.

“It’s not just a fundraiser, it’s a celebration of community, compassion, and the belief that every pet deserves a happy, healthy life,” she said.

Funds raised will support SCAR’s life-saving work, which goes beyond rescuing and rehoming animals to providing families in crisis with emergency veterinary care, food relief and foster programs for pets affected by domestic violence.

The walk is supported by major sponsors including RES by Mirvac, ANZ Bank, and Mirvac, alongside several pet care businesses.

Early bird tickets are now available, with options for supporters unable to attend to donate or purchase a $10 “magical gift bag” valued at more than $80, with 100 per cent of proceeds going to SCAR.
