Docklanders marvelled at this year’s “bigger” and “better” Diwali Festival
Melbourne’s Diwali Festival was held at Marvel Stadium in October, with 20,000 visitors flocking to Docklands for the always colourful occasion.
The free event was held on Saturday, October 26 and included an expanded Melbourne Diwali Business Expo, giveaways and a range of cultural performances.
The festival was put on through a partnership between the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) and Melbourne Diwali.
RACV Melbourne Diwali CEO Anna Bhardwaj said the festival played a huge role in fostering community connections and that it was “more than just a festival”.
According to Ms Bhardwaj, the vision for this year’s Diwali was for it to be a community platform that celebrates and promotes the values that define the community.
"Melbourne thrives on diversity, and Diwali is the perfect symbol of the vibrant, interconnected lives we lead,” she said.
As Diwali continues to grow in popularity, so does its size and this year’s festival was the largest and most immersive celebration yet.
It included enhanced entertainment through interactive zones and $20,000 worth of giveaways, an array of eating options that took festivalgoers on a culinary journey through India’s diverse regions, and a Content Creators lounge.
The Melbourne Diwali Dance Competition was a crowd favourite too, showcasing diverse Indian dance styles and local talent.
RACV executive general manager membership Mark Geraghty said RACV was excited about the partnership with Melbourne Diwali to acclaim and support Victoria’s vibrant Indian community.
Through the partnership, Mr Geraghty said that they delivered a vibrant and engaging festival that celebrated the rich cultural heritage of India.
“RACV is proud to have been a part of such a significant cultural event that fosters respect and tradition,” he said. •
