Community day celebrates everything Docklands

A community day promoting the talents of Docklanders as well as showcasing what the precinct has to offer will be held on November 26. The “Celebrate at Yarra’s Edge” event will bring the community together through a range of exhibitors, information sessions, social connections, entertainment, and catering.

Hosted at Shed 21 One Padel Docklands (206 Lorimer St) from 12pm to 3pm, the event will be open for everyone who lives and works in Docklands to attend.

Organisers Jenny Leyva de Loryn and David Wallace-Lemmon, who have a combined 22 years of living in Docklands, said there was pent-up demand for the community to “foster connections” after two years of lockdown.

“A survey was sent out to garner insights on community interest and there was an overwhelming response,” they said. “This is where Celebrate at Yarra’s Edge was truly born. Key sponsors of the event reached out early to get involved.”

“Mirvac, which has been a huge part in literally building the Docklands community, was first to jump on board as a major sponsor, it will also be delivering an information session on its newest project at the event.”

Exhibitors on the day include Barry Plant Docklands (a sponsor), ANZ, Eighteen Pence Lane Coffee and Food, the City of Melbourne (also a sponsor), The Hub at Docklands, the Docklands Toy Library, Think Pink Foundation, Victoria Police, LaGuapa, Mbassy, MTA Travel, Petwell, PH Celebrants, Premium Fitness, Sassone Cucina Italiana, Toucan, Works, Victoria’s Attiq and more. There will also be “junior exhibitors” selling beads and candles.

Another exhibitor will be the Docklands Chamber of Commerce, which helped plan and develop ideas for the event, and will use the opportunity to promote the Docklands Dollars scheme for residents who attend.

Information sessions will run for 15 minutes on two stages, covering information about the Docklands property market, financial wellbeing, health, accessibility, and electric cars, to name a few.

The team at Premium Fitness Crew will also be running classes all day which attendees are welcome to join or learn more about what they do.

In addition to the major sponsors and information sessions, organisers said they had received a huge response from local businesses providing some “absolutely amazing door prizes to give away on the day” including dinner and drink vouchers, books, art, pet treats, adventure activities and more.

“We really want everyone in the community to get something out of this event; it will be a great opportunity to bring all of Docklands together and meet people and hopefully find some common interests and new friendships,” Mr Wallace-Lemmon and Ms Leyva de Loryn said.

“There will be a lot happening in a short amount of time so make sure you check out the event Facebook page as more exciting information will regularly be dropping on what to expect at the event.” •
