AusPost Annex at The District Docklands to close

Australia Post has announced that it will close its Annex at The District Docklands in March representing a major loss for locals living and working within the NewQuay precinct.

The closure means locals living between NewQuay and The District will be forced to use the already busy Bourke St post office in Victoria Harbour – a 1.7-kilometre walk from Annex at Wharf St.

The District Docklands Annex will close on Friday, March 21 and Australia Post said remained committed to servicing the Docklands community via its Bourke St location, as well as other nearby locations in North Melbourne and the CBD.

Many locals took to the Docklands Community Hub Facebook Group in January to express their disappointment over the decision, stating it was a shame to see the service leave the precinct.

Services available at The District location have included self-service, parcel and mail, financial and insurance, passport and travel, identity and document services. It is also open on Saturdays between 9am to 12. 30pm, unlike the Bourke St location which is only open Monday to Friday. •
