A call to register pets in Docklands
Dear editor, I’m a Docklands resident of 15 years. May I invite the City of Melbourne to take out an ad in the next issue of our local paper to educate my neighbours on why pet registration is important?
The park rangers frequent my neighbourhood and fine them if their dog is off lead. They also waited for my neighbour outside her apartment block last week and fined her as her dog lead is more than three metres long. Apparently there was a complaint about her, so the council swiftly acted and sent the park rangers to her door to give her a penalty.
So, can we take a look at this? To avoid the complaints, can we please have a designated off lead dog park in Victoria Harbour? We have been politely requesting this for years now.
We even did a petition over a weekend a few years back, where we gained more than 300 signatures from locals, requesting a park to have a designated off lead area. No money or infrastructure is needed … just a council order to allow us a time slot for dogs off-lead after 5pm.
The council has said to us that there isn’t enough pets being registered in the area to quantify investment. So may I invite the council to run an advert and educate us on why and how to register our pets, so it gets the stats to start to take a look at this.
A designated off lead dog park after 5pm, would not only save the complaints, but would also save wages on park rangers. •
Yours in anticipation,
Nicky & Hunzo the dog
