New landmark emerging on Footscray Rd

A brand-new bright green cycling and pedestrian veloway is growing before the eyes of Docklanders above Footscray Rd.

The new cycling and walking crossover is being constructed as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project, linking up the Capital City Trail across Footscray Rd and Moonee Ponds Creek.

The numbers of people using the trail, which pre-COVID already boasted daily morning traffic (between 7am and 9am) of around 2000 riders, are expected to scale up considerably when the veloway opens this year according to the Bicycle Network.

A temporary path remains in place along Footscray Rd between Waterfront Way and Little Docklands Drive while workers continue to finish the bridge, with its soaring green structures already proving an eye-catching addition over Footscray Rd. •
