The Mission to Seafarers Victoria (MtSV) annual Maritime Art Prize and Exhibition is on again in October.

The exhibition opens to the public from 12pm daily from October 20 through to October 26 at the Mission to Seafarers building at 717 Flinders St in Docklands. More than 70 both modern and traditional paintings will be on display.

The Maritime Art Prize and Exhibition was established in 2002 and is Australia’s leading maritime art prize promoting excellence in maritime and seafaring subjects in art. The annual event is a major fundraising initiative of the Mission to Seafarers Victoria and will celebrate its 21st anniversary in 2023.

Artists respond to the theme “The Relationship of Humanity to the Sea” for their share of $25,000 in prize money. Awards are presented in in four categories – Maritime Art Award, Best in Traditional Maritime Art, Runner-Up, and Emerging Artist.

The generosity of our sponsors, who provide the prize money and other in-kind contributions, and the artists who pay an entrance fee and a commission on all works that are sold, ensures the continued success and wide popularity of the Maritime Art Prize and Exhibition and in turn, supports the work of the MtSV to support seafarers. •
