Firelight to return with world-first underground light show
Marvel Stadium’s underground space will be transformed into a “never-before-seen labyrinth of light and sound” as part of this year’s Firelight Festival, which will return to Docklands from June 28 to 30.
The ticketed “Firelight Labyrinth” experience will make its world debut in Melbourne, designed by international creative lighting specialists Mandylights. Visitors will weave their way through a mythical maze of light and sound with cutting-edge technology, dynamic audio and more than 144,000 lights.
Firelight Festival will spark into action as the school holidays begin, from Friday, June 28 to Sunday, June 30, while the all-new labyrinth experience will run from June 28 to Sunday, July 14.
Lord Mayor Sally Capp said Docklands would once again be “ablaze with activity in June”.
“The festival is a firecracker for the local economy, injecting $4.7 million last year in three days,” Cr Capp said.
We’re expecting to see double the support for traders this winter with the Firelight Labyrinth experience spanning 17 days.
Marvel Stadium general manager Scott Fitzgerald said it was excited to be bringing the labyrinth experience to the precinct.
“It’s just another family-friendly event we are delivering with the aim to showcase activity at the stadium 365 days per year, alongside our newly renovated state-of-the-art Stadium Square,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
The festival will once again surround Victoria Harbour with a diverse range of tasty eats and entertainment, including fire performers, African drumming, live music, fire pits and drums, flame jets and fire sculptures and arches.
General admission tickets for Firelight Labyrinth will be priced at $37.50, and child tickets at $22. Concession and family discounts are available, and people will be given the opportunity to win free tickets as part of a unique, all-inclusive Docklands experience. Exclusive pre-sale tickets will be available from May 1, with general sale beginning May 2. •
