Whispers of the Kelly Gang

If you listen closely, you can hear the whisper of the Kelly Gang in Docklands.

As the wind blows past the Nolan building in NewQuay, the artwork Ned and Dan by Alexander Knox slowly moves in the breeze.

The artwork, on the façade of the Nolan building, was inspired by Sidney Nolan’s 1946 Ned Kelly paintings.

The golden perforated panels symbolise Australia’s landscape, while the black helmet-like panels on the corners depict the infamous Kelly masks.

The mirrored sculptures within the masks move slowly in the wind and represent rolling waves.

Sometimes the wind causes the sculpture to move in such a way that it appears a pair of eyes are looking out, silently watching Docklands pass by.
