When the stars come out

Stars of the big screen can be spotted at Yarra’s Edge this month when a free outdoor cinema series kicks off.

Movies Under the Stars at Yarra’s Edge will be held at Point Park on Thursday evenings for four weeks, starting on February 20.

The cinema site will open at 6.30pm each week and early birds may be lucky enough to secure one of the best seats in the house, with beanbags distributed to the first 100 people to arrive.

Destination Docklands is presenting the event, with support from the City of Melbourne and Yarra’s Edge developer Mirvac.

“Everyone loves a night out at the movies,” Destination Docklands CEO Anita Donnelly said.

“People can enjoy a summer evening at the movies whilst taking in the stunning city backdrop at this waterfront Docklands sanctuary.”

A free ferry service will leave from Federation Square at 6.30pm each Thursday during the series, delivering movie-goers to Point Park and then returning them to the CBD after the film is finished.

Guests are also encouraged to take advantage of special pre-film offers at nearby restaurants or can bring along a picnic.

The films are expected to start at around 8.30pm, as the sun goes down, and the program for the twilight cinema series is:
Thursday, February 20 – The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel;
Thursday, February 27 – The Sapphires;
Thursday 6 March – Finding Nemo; and
Thursday 13 March – The Great Gatsby.
