Wheelchair curling arrives
30th November, 2010
For the past six months the Victorian Curling Association (VCA) has been training wheelchair athletes in the sport of curling at the Icehouse.
The outcome has been the formation of a wheelchair curling team – a first for Australian curling.
In another Australian first, the VCA has set up a summer curling competition. And the wheelchair curling team has a spot in this competition.
On November 15, the wheelchair curling team won its first game 7 - 5 against some very stiff competition. Its next game is December 6 in the 9pm-11pm slot.
This is the first wheelchair curling team to be formed and compete at club level. Its objective is to represent Australia in the 2011 World Wheelchair Curling Championships.
