Space for a growing community

Yarra’s Edge could soon have a new community space, with council last month accepting a land transfer from Mirvac.

As part of a development agreement between Mirvac and Places Victoria, the developer was obliged to provide to the council 250sqm of space at Yarra’s Edge for community use.

The property was last month transferred to the City of Melbourne for a peppercorn price of $1.

The space provided is a ground floor tenancy at the Array building, but the specific community use is yet to be determined.

The Docklands Community Place Plan had identified the property as a possible future community neighbourhood centre.

The council will undertake community consultation to determine an appropriate use for the space and funding will be proposed as part of the 2016-17 capital works cycle to fund the fit out.
