Social Club is up and running

Some 30 Docklanders turned out for the first Docklands Social Club outing on October 8 at Watermark in Victoria Harbour.

The Social Club has been established to bring Docklanders together in a social setting at a different venue every second Wednesday of the month.

The next event is at 7pm on Wednesday, November 12 at Chiara, a brand-new venue within Collins Square at 705A Collins St.

Event organiser, Docklands News publisher Shane Scanlan, said he had learned some lessons from the first event.

“I think it was okay, but it worked best for the people who already knew each other,” Mr Scanlan said.

“I was hoping that the social club could be a totally unstructured outing but I think next time I will have half an hour of mingling at the start before people either sit down for a meal together, or chose to continue on at the bar.”

“I’m also having a logo developed and a banner made so people actually know they are in the right place.  I’ll also bring along some stick-on name tags to help
the mingling.”

The Docklands Social Club chooses a location for the monthly event and participants pay their way directly with the venue.

“You don’t have to eat and you don’t even have to drink,” Mr Scanlan said.  “The important part is to turn up and meet some new people from Docklands.”
