Probus Club launched at Docklands

Melbourne’s Docklands-based Probus club has grown to about 45 members since its launch at Docklands Hub on December 2.

The Melbourne Sunrise Probus Club’s membership target is 80. It is the first new Melbourne-based Probus club for 21 years.

Probus clubs are for professional/business retirees and other retirees of good character. The clubs run a monthly speaker program, and encourage networking and socialising among retirees.

The initial monthly meeting is at 10am on Thursday February 3.

The February 3 speaker will be Melbourne City Councillor Kevin Louey, who will speak on the council’s Docklands programs.

The social program started with an MCG tour and lunch on January 12, and a movie morning and lunch on January 20 – The King’s Speech at Kino, Collins St.

The club is the first Probus club in Australia – and possibly the world – to use the ClubRunner web system. The club’s website is http://www.clubrunner.ca/mspc.

The club has gone further towards paperless operations by buying a net-book laptop to enter member data during events, which are then emailed to the ClubRunner system.

Members are drawn from the CBD, Docklands, Southbank, East Melbourne and other inner suburbs.

The interim president is Harold Fraser, of Docklands but office-bearers will be formally elected at the annual general meeting on March 3.
