Praise for Yarra Trams

Praise for Yarra Trams

Destination Docklands has paid tribute to Yarra Trams for the vital service it provides to the traders and residents of our evolving precinct.

The co-operative marketing organisation’s executive officer Michelle Kemp said: “Yarra Trams has been extremely supportive of tourism businesses in Docklands by promoting them inside the City Circle Tram.”

Ms Kemp said she was excited that Docklands would have its very own specially-designed City Circle tram early next year.

“Destination Docklands and Yarra Trams have been working for some time on a specially designed City Circle tram promoting Docklands to be launched early in 2012.  The tram will raise awareness of what Docklands has to offer and educate the public on how easy it is to get here,” Ms Kemp said.

As the operator of the world’s biggest tram network, Yarra Trams brings more than 2000 tram services each week to Docklands across seven different routes.

The popular City Circle Tram offers a free and convenient way to bring tourists to Harbour Town and other Docklands attractions.  It carries more than 250,000 passengers per month, and brings around two million tourists to Docklands every year.

Around 35 per cent of people who hop on the City Circle Tram get off at Docklands
and 67 per cent plan to visit Docklands during their time in Melbourne.  Amazingly, 10 City Circle trams stop at Harbour Town every hour!

Ms Kemp said: “Destination Docklands looks forward to working with Yarra Trams into the future to help our community.  Cities succeed on the strength of their public transport services and without Yarra Trams, where would Docklands be?”
