Police centre tops out

Construction on the new Victoria Police Centre (VPC) reached a major milestone last month, with the final floor poured on the 40-storey Docklands building.

Adjoining the existing 313 Spencer Street Police Complex, the new VPC will be fitted-out internally during the coming months, with the first staff moving in mid-next year.

More than 5000 employees will be based in the building, moving from the current headquarters at the World Trade Centre at Flinders Wharf.

Victoria Police’s chief commissioner Graham Ashton said the new modern purpose-built facility would enable consolidation of Victoria Police’s city operations and support staff into one location.

“The opportunity to co-locate with the existing 313 Spencer St Police Complex, which was completed in 2015, will allow greater interaction and collaboration between operational and business teams,” he said.

The “top out” ceremony on August 19 was attended by the chief commissioner, Minister for Police Lisa Neville and owners Cbus Property and Keppel REIT, as well as Probuild, which designed and constructed the building.
