Plaudits for local architecture

On October 28, both the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and Docklands’ ANZ Centre were recognised in Canberra at the National Architecture Awards.

From more than 900 projects that contested the Australian Institute of Architects’ state and territory awards, MCEC took home the National Award for Public Architecture and the ANZ Centre won the Emil Sodersten Award for Interior Architecture.

Having taken out the Victorian Architecture Medal in June, MCEC, its joint venture architect Woods Bagot and NH Architecture were proud of the national recognition.

MCEC’s chief executive Leigh Harry said it was a great honour and another great outcome for everyone involved in the design and development of the MCEC.

The ANZ Centre and Hassell architects also took out the World Architecture Fesitival’s Interiors and Fitout of the Year award on November 5 in Barcelona.

Both the MCEC and the ANZ Centre, along with the Goods Shed North, also went on to win awards at the Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) on November 11 in Sydney.
