Parking reprieve for Central Pier

Parking reprieve for Central Pier

VicUrban has given Atlantic Group a temporary night-time reprieve from a deadline which would have seen parking removed altogether from the western end of Central Pier.

Acting Docklands general manager Simon Wilson said the previously announced parking end-date of March 31 had been extended at night in the light of the disruption caused by the Harbour Esplanade redevelopment.

“VicUrban has recently amended this agreement to allow parking on the western tip after 7pm, until the first stage of the Harbour Esplanade redevelopment concludes in mid-2011,” Mr Wilson said.

“The decision to not allow parking on the western tip of Central Pier takes into account the available parking within the area including 2500 spaces beneath Etihad Stadium and ensures the area is kept available for public events and activities.”

The operator’s lease of Central Pier does not include the public space west of Shed 9.

Under the lease, the operator is allowed to charge for parking between Sheds 9 and 14.

The lease also provides for 10 spaces for boat operators.

Atlantic Group declined to comment.
