Docklanders are invited to a come-and-try playshop (a workshop where play is the focus) at Knowledge Market in Victoria Harbour on October 8.

Donna Sparx teaches Hoopercise, a cardio exercise that tones the body and builds strengths of the waist, legs and arms. It also incorporates some dance element.

Ms Sparx said the central theme of Hoopercise was fun fitness.

“We do fun, playful fitness that also brings results. There are always lots of giggles during the workout,” she said.

When corporate work no longer interested her, Ms Sparx travelled to Turkey and Bali to learn from world’s Hoopercise professionals.

She then brought the “hoopspiration” to Melbourne.

She wants Hoopercise to be a fun and engaging exercise that also serves as a de-stressing tool.

“I want it to be an incentive for people to leave work on time and engage in something beneficial for their health,” she said.

Just like Yoga and Pilates, Hoopercise is a stream of workout practised by people from all ages and genders.

“There’s no age or gender limit for this exercise. Guys actually find it physically challenging.”
