Docklands inspires

Docklands was the creative inspiration behind over 120 entries in Destination Docklands’ “Shades of Winter” photography competition.

According to Destination Docklands chair David Cochrane, the aim of the competition was to get people out and about in Docklands during the winter months.

Entries were accepted until the end of July, with selected photographs on display at the Harbour Town Tourism Lounge last month.

James Withers was named winner of the adult category for his purple-tinted photo of Victoria Harbour.

Coincidently, Mr Withers had taken the photo a day before seeing the competition advertised.

Mr Withers is currently studying photography and said he visited Docklands about once a fortnight to take photos.

He said he hoped to pursue a career in architectural and real estate photography, making Docklands the perfect location to hone his skills.

The youth category winner, 11-year-old Bella Miller, snapped an interesting photo incorporating NewQuay sculpture Silence.

Both James and Bella won $1000 cash along with a selection of vouchers from Docklands businesses and attractions.
