Community planting day

Community planting day

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a green thumb then a planting day at the Docklands Community Garden this month is the perfect opportunity to get your hands dirty.

The garden committee is gearing up for its spring and summer planting day on Sunday, September 15 and wants the local community to come along and join in the fun.

The planting day will kick off at 10am with a free hands-on gardening workshop at The Hub, led by horticulturalist Sandi Pullman.

Attendees will learn how to prepare soil for planting, what vegetables and herbs to plant during spring and summer and how to protect them from pests and disease.

The fun will then continue at the community garden in Geographe St, where locals and visitors can get their hands dirty and help out with the planting of the new crops.

Garden committee leader Greg Wise said the day would be a lot of fun with plenty of activities planned.

He said the committee would be putting on a barbecue and kids would be kept busy with competitions, prizes and planting activities.
