Alma Doepel Update

Alma Doepel Update

It’s full steam ahead for the Alma Doepel restoration team and its plans for a fundraising gala luncheon at Etihad Stadium next month.

The lunch is being hosted by Alma Doepel’s owner Sail and Adventure and the Docklands Chamber of Commerce at Etihad Stadium’s Medallion Room on August 28.

Attendees are invited to join Peter Hitchener from Channel 9 and other distinguished guests from Melbourne’s business community to rally behind the cause.

The lunch will run from 12pm – 2pm and tickets are available for $220 for individuals and $2000 for tables of ten.

The Alma Doepel restoration team have also launched a crowd-funding campaign to raise the $5000 needed to replace the Alma’s “knees”.

The restoration is restoring the 50 wooden structural bracings or “knees” for Alma’s hull.

Professional shipbuilders have found that 35 of the knees can be repaired, but 15 will need to be completely replaced.

Since launching the campaign $1555 has been pledged towards the project.

And there’s plenty more fundraising to be done with around $1.7 million needed to complete the restoration of the historic top-sail schooner and return it to Docklands’ waters.
