Docklands company lends a hand

A Docklands software company is lending a helping hand by providing training to staff at community inclusion organisation Annecto.

When Stephanie Sanassee joined TransformIT Systems, she brought with her the experience of volunteering at Annecto.

Annecto assists people with disabilities and older people to achieve goals and valued roles in the community.

While still at Victoria University, Stephanie was inspired by the stories of people Annecto worked alongside on a day-to-day basis.

“I really enjoyed the VU digital story-telling project at Annecto.  When I started at TransformIT Systems, Andrew and the team were really keen to learn more about how they could assist the organisation.”

Partnerships manager Joan Cooney recognised a need for staff to have access to computer training which wasn’t previously available.

“We have been delighted with the relationship with Andrew and the team at TransformIT Systems.   Staff at our David House Community Hub in Yarraville now enjoy classes conducted by Stephanie.”

With staff now able to access more information online from Annecto and through the internet, a confidence in seeking out information to assist the people they work with, has been one of the positive results.

Annecto community development worker Manuel Orellana is out on the field most days and has little time to improve his computer skills.

“I was interested in joining the classes.  We had classes every Wednesday and I really enjoy it.  It has really helped me and has been important for me to learn and practise skills.”

Manuel has been particularly delighted as Stephanie has now set up his computer so he can access the internet and other computer programs most people now take for granted.

TransformIT CEO Andrew Forbes is pleased his company has been able to help.

“We were looking for an opportunity to put back into the community and when we were introduced to Annecto, we recognised we could really help out,” he said.

Andrew says the support has been well received and the company will happily continue to provide training.
