Community3008 inc. holds its inaugural meeting

Community3008 inc. is one of the four initiatives resulting from the Docklands Stakeholder Group and continues to build interest in Docklands. On July 18, it held its first meeting as an incorporated group.

A comprehensive presentation was given by Year 10 student Anya Gupta who has been the lead in creating D-Zone – a project designed in consultation by youth for youth in Docklands.

Anja walked the group through the custom designed website explaining the different facets that the project will be offering. With programs from robotics to dance Community3008 inc. was suitably impressed by the project and wish Anya and her team success rolling out this new initiative.

About D-Zone

A resource in Docklands for residents of Docklands and Youth of Melbourne. It delivers youth engagement programs in Docklands using robotics and performing arts. D-Zone also runs workshops developing community leadership.

Further details about the D-Zone project can be sent to [email protected] or visit the website.

Guest speakers on the night also included an appearance by Leading Senior Constable Glenn McFarlane from the Protective Policing Unit and Senior Constable Raj from Victoria Police with a briefing on community policing and quick Q&A session with group members.

Due to time constraints their appearance was brief but still created a lot of animated discussion and it was ascertained that a more in-depth discussion specific to Docklands’ unique high rise living situation was required and a new meeting has been set for August 28 at 6pm for a 6.30pm start at The Hub – 80 Harbour Esplanade, Docklands.

The group has also secured Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece and head of City of Melbourne waterways Adam Buchholtz to speak at the August meeting. So, if you have questions about the City of Melbourne, anything Harbour/Yarra associated and community policing in Docklands this will be your opportunity to ask questions of the authorities and a great night for the community to attend.

The group is also pleased to announce that the Community3008 inc. website is now active with the ability to register membership details and accept payments for the $5 per annum sign-up fee.

The website will continue to grow and is expected to become more comprehensive with community information. The executive committee for the group is fully voluntary and welcomes any members of the community to join up and assist in the process of implementing community connection in Docklands. •
