Put a spring in your step

Put a spring in your step

Spring is in the air and there is a spring in our steps as the cold weather packs its bags for another year! Sunshine abounds in Docklands with winter coming to an end.

A happy little seal paid the Mission to Seafarers a visit recently – he is a seafarer after all – and his presence is testimony to the health of our waterways. The seal was chewing on a large fish he had caught and was having a great time in the spring sunshine under Seafarers Bridge.

And so it is that August comes to an end and Docklands enters into spring and some great times ahead!

Seniors program

Docklands involvement in the Seniors Program was officially launched on Saturday, August 23 at Watermark with Minister for Ageing David Davis making the announcement to an eagerly-assembled audience of enthusiastic Docklanders.

With the Docklands precinct being part of the Aged Friendly Precinct Program, our area will attract many more seniors, especially during the Seniors Festival when public transport is free for seniors.

Our seniors are the Baby-boomer generation who changed the way of life back in ’60s. In came flower power, pop music, liberal attitudes, emancipation, Woodstock and many more things – so watch this space as our senior

Baby-boomers are set to change the way seniors live – have you seen The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel?

To capture this market, Docklands businesses need to increase their seniors business profile and become a member of Aged Friendly Partners Program. See the Docklands Chamber of Commerce website for more information.

Docklands Arts, Laughs and Blues

Docklands Arts, Laughs and Blues Festival 2014 returns to Docklands from Wednesday, October 1 until Sunday, October 5, winding up with a Carnival of Blues, offering a day of free blues entertainment at various locations throughout the Harbour Town area.

Now in its third year, the Docklands Arts, Laughs and Blues Festival aims to continue to support the local Docklands community and provide entertainment for people of all ages whilst highlighting the fantastic area that is Docklands. All this brought to you by Mel and her team at Wonderland Fun Park. By the way, please join me in congratulating Mel and Colin on the safe arrival of baby girl Tayla – yet another great attraction at Wonderland Fun Park!

Melbourne Regatta and Blessing of the Fleet

As we go to press we are poised for the greatest show on earth! The Melbourne Regatta and Blessing of the Fleet.  As you read this, so it will have come to pass. The weather will have been glorious and the harbour packed with vessels of all kinds.

Crowds gathered at the shoreline to watch the ceremony as Father Bob blessed the assembled vessels. This was followed by a formal sail-by with whistles flares and
water canons.

The Enterprize then broke away from the assembly and commenced the first landing re-enactment and raising of the flag to proclaim Melbourne! The crowd were then entertained by Geoff Achison and Jimi Hocking performing blues on the harbour, Lindi Jane entertaining people of all ages with her puppetry, whilst over in the new Docklands library, a performance of Shakespeare by the Melbourne Shakespeare Society and story telling by Anne Stewart took place. Also present was the First Fleet Fellowship exhibition. What a great day to be in Docklands! Thanks to all our generous sponsors!
