We are receiving a lot of literature on events and activities which we are emailing to members. Examples have included activities at The Hub and at Waterfront City.

We are planning to hold a wine tasting and cheese night in July - details later.

On the matter of The Hub, you will recall I mentioned last time that it was fully booked out for the rest of the year and we were having to find alternative venues. Well the council has just allocated $2.5 million in the 2010-11 budget for a reconstruction of The Hub into a much larger building to house both community services and a library.

That is great news and it hopefully heralds the beginning of provision of much needed community infrastructure in Docklands. Concept plans of when it will be constructed are not yet available.  We trust that the community will be given the opportunity to comment on the plans.

Whilst The Hub is a convenient central location, it lacks parking and perhaps on-site parking can be included in the plans.

Our DCA website is in production and should be up and running by late June.  The banner will contain a rotation of different scenes of Docklands and there will be plenty of news.

I have started attending meetings of CORBA which is the Coalition of Resident and Business Associations in the City of Melbourne area. It provides a combined voice to council and the State Government on issues affecting our areas. I will keep members informed on any relevant matters as they arise.

No motorbike signs have finally been installed on the NewQuay Promenade after a lot of pressure on council.

We note that plenty of construction work continues unabated from one end to the other, from the new H1 tower at NewQuay to the 82 townhouses at Yarra’s Edge.

Meanwhile we continue to push for amenities including parkland, sports facilities and even a school.

If any member or reader for that matter has any suggestions they wish to put forward to the DCA with respect to activities or issues to take up on their behalf you are welcome to do so by contacting us on the email address above.
