To our Docklands business community.

To our Docklands business community.

As June 30 has come and gone, the Docklands Chamber of Commerce wishes all our business community a prosperous 2015-2016 financial year.

We all know that business challenges come and go, and depending upon your industry, they differ.  Being a member of the Docklands Chamber of Commerce not only brings you together with other business operators, it keeps you updated on information of what is happening within our precinct and keeps you updated on offerings from the City of Melbourne for marketing, events and small business funding.

Our newsletter, delivered electronically, brings information on upcoming events, opportunity for marketing, legislation changes, networking opportunities, hints and tips and much more.

On Tuesday, June 23 we held our Docklands Chamber of Commerce and Destination Docklands joint Stakeholder Event held at Sketch, at Central Pier, where the strategic plans for Destination Docklands for 2015-2016 and an overview of the year ahead for the Docklands Chamber of Commerce were delivered.

The Docklands Chamber of Commerce funding application is currently with the City of Melbourne and will be ratified shortly – confirmation on this will be received just as the paper goes to print, however we are very confident of success for 2015-2016 funding under the City of Melbourne precincts program.  This will allow your chamber to continue supporting the business community through networking, information, support, training and event delivery.

The City of Melbourne is again hosting winter fireworks in Docklands every Friday night in July and August, bringing nine Friday nights of action and activity. Make sure your business joins in the festivities and makes the most out of the increased visitation that this will bring.

We encourage chamber member businesses to “like” our Facebook page and we will then share your posts as part of our daily updates on Facebook and Twitter.  Sharing your information is a benefit of being a Chamber of Commerce member.

August will be a busy month in Docklands with a number of events, please check out the following events.

Melt Away Chocolate Festival  – August 7, 8 and 9. http://www.meltawaymelbourne.com  For lovers of chocolate, this is a must-attend festival .

We are having another sensational event in Docklands on August 30 when Melbourne Day is coupled with Melbourne Regatta Day.  Join in the celebrations both on land and water.  At the Blessing of the Fleet, Victoria Harbour will come alive with vessels of all kinds while music and entertainment on the foreshore will go from 11.30am to 5pm. For more information visit http://www.melbourneregatta.com.au or http://www.melbourneday.com.au

Your chamber continues to work in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services and the City of Melbourne to support Docklands as an age-friendly precinct.  We encourage businesses within Docklands to join the seniors program and be part of this wonderful initiative.  Customer service training will be offered to chamber members’ staff to assist in delivering excellence in customer service to the senior demographic.  October 10 and 11 will see Docklands come alive with a festival to close the 2015 Seniors Festival.  Watch out for updates on this in the chamber newsletter and make sure your business is involved.

The proposers of the Fountain and Flames installation continue to work behind the scenes in developing a business case and liaising with stakeholders and potential funding partners.  As I talk to both business and community representatives, the constant question is “when will we have the fountains and flames”? This is an exciting concept for Docklands and we look forward to sharing progress on this initiative.
