Docklands welcomed a further 300 corporate workers last month with the official opening of Invensys Rail in NewQuay.
Transport Minister Terry Mulder opened the new Docklands Drive offices on May 11.
Invensys manufactures railway signalling and communications equipment and Docklands has become its Australia and New Zealand corporate head office.
In opening the office, Mr Mulder joked that with current rail-project-costing blowouts due to signalling costs, he felt he should officiate because the state was contributing significant funding to the company.
He remarked that with an 85 per cent increase in railway patronage in Melbourne in the past decade, Invensys was well positioned for growth.
Invensys chief operating officer Phil Ellingworth said the new Docklands office had given the company a significant edge to retain and recruit the best staff available.
Invensys had outgrown its previous facility in South Melbourne, which also did not afford any opportunity to properly integrate the company’s operations.
He said the company was proud of the 5 Star Green Star working environment and had implemented a number of sustainability initiatives, including providing a 75 per cent subsidy for staff choosing to travel to work by public transport.
Invensys manufactures equipment in Australia and last year made $50 million worth of gear at its South Melbourne plant. It is moving its manufacturing operation to Port Melbourne this year.
Invensys occupies two and a half floors of the CSC building at 380 Docklands Drive.
