A number of NewQuay developments are set for completion by the end of the year.

The construction will bring about 3500 new residents and will be accompanied by more open space.

The exterior of Hiap Hoe’s DKO-architects-designed Marina Tower has reached completion. With 425 dwellings, the project combines two buildings – comprising 16-storey and 43-storey towers. Amenities include retail and communal spaces.

The 18-storey luxury tower Banksia will be completed by next February. The tower drew inspiration from the native Banksia flower.

Melbourne-based architect firm McBride Charles Ryan designed the curved façade with the Australian flower in mind and has utilised maritime materials and technologies in its construction.

Work has started on the Elm and Stone development in Docklands Drive. Included is a new 221-unit Quest apartment hotel. Quest NewQuay is Quest’s largest development in Australia and is expected to open in 2019.

On Waterfront Way, Capital Alliance’s proposed five-star, 17-storey Marriott Hotel has been approved by the Planning Minister and construction will start soon.

And Ashe Morgan is applying for a permit to build a car showroom with 10 storeys of office space above it next to Costco at the corner of Footscray Rd and Waterfront Way.

With the development of these different towers comes NewQuay Park, a 5000sqm space, located south of Harbour Town, recently renamed The District Docklands, and the Melbourne Star observation wheel.

The park will bring greenery to the area’s growing population and will utilise the area above Banksia’s underground car park.

Residents of the area can also expect an expansion of The District Docklands, with future works including a Hoyts Cinema, as well as a fresh food centre.
