Melbourne Ice is red hot

Melbourne Ice, Victoria’s representative team in the Australian Ice Hockey League, made a spectacular debut at Icehouse on May 1, beating the Sydney Ice Dogs 4:1 in front of a sell-out crowd.
Following two losses on road the weekend prior, the game was a slicker performance by Melbourne Ice, whose intensive training program at Icehouse paid dividends.
Back at the Icehouse a week later it was another win and another sell-out for Melbourne Ice who dominated the Sydney Bears with a 9:2 win, including five goals to impressive import Jason Baclig.
Melbourne Ice then hit the road again, hosted by the Canberra Knights, who started well but faded, ultimately losing the game to a red-hot Melbourne Ice 5:1. The next day the team travelled to Liverpool to take on the Sydney Ice Dogs for a second time in the season. The 9:1 win included hat tricks from both Baclig and import Kurt MacSweyn, with team captain Lliam Webster also scoring.
Returning home, the winning streak continued when the Ice took on the Sydney Ice Dogs at home. The 7:0 win was a great credit to the cohesive team and young goalie Andrew Crowther. Fans at the game were also treated to the great news from
Melbourne Ice president Andy Lamrock, that Melbourne will host the division II world championships in 2011.
The unbroken winning streak at the Icehouse continued on Sunday 30 May with Melbourne Ice avenging their early loss to the Canberra Knights with a 6:1 win at home in what was another spectacular display for hockey fans in Melbourne, new and old.
