Yarra’s Edge local Peter Wright (pictured above) was honoured with an Order of Australia medal on Australia Day.

Mr Wright received the recognition for services to the sport of squash, through a range of executive roles.

He is currently chairman of the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) squash section and president of the Australian Masters Squash Association.

Mr Wright has also served as tournament director of Victorian Open Squash and the Victorian and Australian Masters Squash Association.

He was championship director for the World Masters Squash Championships in Melbourne in both 1995 and 2001 and was an executive committee member and volunteer for squash at the 2005 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

“I’ve been on committees non-stop since I was 19 and I’ve loved every minute of it,” Mr Wright said.

He said he was surprised to be nominated for the award and was looking forward to the presentation ceremony at Government House later this year.

“It will be very, very special,” Mr Wright said. “My family is very chuffed about it.”
