Discover your ‘‘backyard’’

Discover your ‘‘backyard’’

Docklanders are invited to discover the “backyard” next door at Westgate Park next month.

The Friends of Westgate Park are planning an open day on Sunday, September 21 and hope Docklands residents will take up the opportunity to learn more about the park.

For those who are interested, but are not quite sure where Westgate Park is, guided bike tours will leave from Hortus at 10am and 12pm.

Once you’ve arrived, there will be expert guides to introduce you to the plant and birdlife of the park, children’s activities and you can get your hands dirty with planting and mulching.

Melbourne historian Meyer Eidelson, will lead a guided walk called “Exploring the Mouth of the Yarra” and David Sparks from the St Kilda indigenous nursery will lead a session on container gardening using local plants.

The Westgate Park open day will be held on Sunday, September 21, from 11am to 3pm.

Bring along your own picnic, coffee and water.
