Buluk Park or Dock Square?

Buluk Park or Dock Square?

The City of Melbourne is considering options for the name of a new public space in Docklands.

Currently known as Dock Square, the new park is located next to the Library at the Dock and is expected to open to the public this month.

Councillors unanimously endorsed the names Dock Square and Buluk Park (or square) for further consultation at a Future Melbourne Committee meeting on April 8.

Buluk is an Aboriginal name meaning wetland or swamp and reflects the area’s original natural environment, while Dock Square reflects the location and post-settlement heritage of the area, according to a report presented at the meeting.

The City of Melbourne will consult with Places Victoria, Lend Lease, the Wurundjeri Land Council and the Docklands Community Forum representative group before making a final decision on the name.
