Bloomsday in Docklands

Bloomsday in Docklands

Bloomsday, the annual celebration of author James Joyce, is coming to Docklands this month.

The events of Joyce’s book Ulysses take place on June 16 and each year this day is recognised as Bloomsday through a range of events and celebrations around the world.

In Melbourne, not-for-profit, volunteer-led society Bloomsday In Melbourne has been staging theatrical productions each year since 1994.

This month, for the first time, the organisation will stage its Bloomsday performance at the Library at the Dock’s theatre.

The original play, The Reel James Joyce, focuses on a fictional scenario questioning what would have happened if Charlie Chaplin had decided to adapt Ulysses as a silent film.

The play opens in Docklands on June 10 and closing night is on Bloomsday, June 16.
