Petticoats, corsets, hats and linen shirts are all in a day's work for Helen Ebsworthy.

Having made her first 18th century-style costume at age 13, Helen is now chief costume-maker for the crew of the Enterprize.

A crew member herself, Helen said each costume was hand-stitched and made from authentic fabrics that would have been used at the time.

She also runs her costume business from Shed 3, so don’t be too surprised if you see ladies kitted out in corsets and full skirts, men in 18th century sailing garb or the odd pirate running along the wharf.

While costume designs are true to the period, Helen said she made some small alterations.

“Female crew still need to be able to work on the ship, which is difficult to do with full corsets and long skirts,” Helen said.
